Markus Zorn is an architect and humanitarian professional with expertise in emergency response, disaster risk reduction, and participatory design. He currently serves on the Global Emergency Response Team at Medair, leading shelter, cash, and infrastructure programs in crisis-affected contexts across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. His work bridges field operations, applied research, and capacity-building, focusing on sustainable, community-centered solutions that enhance resilience and local agency.
Markus has led research and workshops on humanitarian architecture, disaser risk reduction, and community engagement at institutions including Chalmers University of Technology and International school in Switzerland and Austria. He has also presented his work at international conferences and forums, sharing insights on participatory design, innovation and technical shelter solutions.
He is co-authoring two upcoming book chapters: one on power dynamics in community engagement and another on Speculative Design as a pedagogy, reflecting his ongoing engagement with research-informed practice.
Markus holds a Master’s degree in Architecture from Vienna Technical University, with international study experience at Chalmers University of Technology and Catalonia Technical University. His work integrates architecture, humanitarian practice, and social innovation, with a focus on participatory methods, serious games, and equitable community development.
